Reformulated. Reinvented. The NEW Intensive Salve

Some of you have probably been wondering, “Where’d all of the Angel Salve go?”

While Angel Salve has been one of our most popular products since it won ‘Best Topical’ at the 2015 High Times Cannabis Cup, we felt that it was time for an upgrade. With the release of our new CBx Sciences products late last year, we decided to reformulate Angel Salve in a big way - with more cannabinoids and a base that is smoother than ever.

Angel Salve has always contained Calendula, Arnica and White Willow Bark. If it’s not broken, why change it? Traditional applications of these botanicals has shown efficacy in topical pain, swelling, bruising, irritation, etc. Scientists have looked at the chemical composition of each of these herbal ingredients and identified beneficial compounds such as the sesquiterpene helenalin and 11,13-dihydrohelealine and chamissonolid (Arnica), salicin (in White Willow Bark) and therapeutically active triterpenoids such as faradiol-3-O-palmitate, faradiol-3-O-myristate, faradiol-3-O-laurate, arnidiol-3-O-palmitate, arnidiol-3-O-myristate, arnidiol-3-O-laurate, calenduladiol-3-O-palmitate, and calenduladiol-3-O-myristate.

To elevate the complementary herbal ingredients, we customized a unique full spectrum cannabis extract that contains THCA-a, CBD and CBG.  We know that THCA-a is thought to activate TRPV4, which is expressed on the skin – amongst other places in the body.  We also believe that THCA-a may activate the TRPM8 receptor on the skin (Rosenthaler S, Pöhn B, Kolmanz C, Huu CN, Krewenka C, et al.) You can read more about THCA-a in a previous post here.

Differences in receptor binding affinity of several phytocannabinoids do not explain their effects on neural cell cultures. Neurotoxicol Teratol. 2014 Dec.) – also involved in the sensations of hot and cold.   Added to this new formulation is CBG – a new cannabinoid being offered in cannabis therapeutics – that is also thought to activate TRPM8 (De Petrocellis L.; Vellani V.; Schiano-Moriello A.; Marini P.; Magherini P. C.; Orlando P.; Di Marzo V. (2008) Plant-derived cannabinoids modulate the activity of transient receptor potential channels of ankyrin type-1 and melastatin type-8. J. Pharmacol. Exp. Ther. 325, 1007–1015).  Read more about CBG here.

Rounding out the cannabinoid ingredients in this formulation is CBD – the cannabinoid that many may now recognize as being very strongly anti-inflammatory in its own right (Nagarkatti P, Pandey R, Rieder SA, Hegde VL, Nagarkatti M. Cannabinoids as novel anti-inflammatory drugs. Future medicinal chemistry. 2009;1(7):1333-1349. doi:10.4155/fmc.09.93.)

For the base – we have reformulated the the mix of beeswax, mango butter and coconut oil to maximize the topical delivery to the skin, allowing for maximum moisturization while delivering the complementary suite of herbal ingredients in an easy to use salve.

Combining all of these active cannabinoids with proven botanicals, provides an incomparably effective Topical designed to replenish and support your Endocannabinoid System. Look for NEW Intensive Salve at your favorite dispensary.
